2022 Annual Report: Impacting Lives through Clean Water

Introduction

Access to clean water is essential for human survival, yet millions of people around the world lack this basic need. In Nigeria, the situation is no different, with many rural communities struggling to get access to clean water. This is where Haske Water Aid and Empowerment Foundation comes in. As a non-profit organization committed to providing clean water to Nigerians, we have reached over 55,000 Nigerians with access to clean water. This 2022 annual report highlights our two most significant water projects and their impact on the lives of the communities they serve.

Project 1: Borehole Water Intervention in Ndiegu Okpe Umuimama Community, Ebonyi State

Ndiegu Okpe Umuimama community is a rural community in Ebonyi State, Nigeria, that has struggled with access to clean water. The community members have had to fetch water from a dirty pond, putting their health at risk. Haske Water Aid and Empowerment Foundation intervened in December 2022, and after collaborating with the community members, drilled a borehole to provide clean water to the community. The intervention has not only provided access to clean water but also ensured that the community members are aware of the importance of clean water and how to maintain the borehole to ensure its sustainability.

The commissioning day was a day of celebration as the community members were overjoyed to have access to clean water. The event started with an opening prayer by a woman in the community, and the village head gave a warm welcome address. Haske Water Aid and Empowerment Foundation, expressed the team’s heartfelt appreciation and encouraged the community to take care of the borehole project. The representative of the borehole committee spoke, pledging their support and ensuring they would take care of the project for sustainability.

The borehole was officially commissioned by Haske Water Aid and Empowerment Foundation, and the celebration began! It was a day of dancing, singing, and joy. The team was proud to be part of a project that would have a lasting impact on the lives of the people. The project would ensure that the community members no longer had to risk their lives to fetch water for their families.

Project 2: Igbesa Water Project

Haske Water Aid and Empowerment Foundation undertook this project to provide sustainable and potable water to the Igbesa community in Ado-Odo Ogun State, Nigeria. The community had been relying on a shallow well and a stagnant swamp for their water needs, which resulted in waterborne diseases and affected the livelihoods and education of its residents.

Through a series of surveys and visibility studies, the organization identified the need for a borehole project to provide clean water to the community. The project was completed in less than three months and was commissioned with the support of local leaders, students, and villagers. The borehole serves the entire community consisting of nine streets and a primary school with a population of over 1,500 people.

The organization also set up a 7-man borehole committee to ensure the maintenance and sustainability of the project. The community expressed its appreciation and gratitude towards Haske Water Aid and Empowerment Foundation for the provision of sustainable and potable water.

The project was made possible with the support of partners SAMAAB Global Farms and Weinman Trust Fund/Toledo Community Foundation. Haske Water Aid and Empowerment Foundation continues to work towards providing basic amenities and empowerment programs to underprivileged communities in Nigeria.

In conclusion, our 2022 water projects brought a positive transformation to the community by providing them with sustainable and potable water. Prior to the intervention, the community was burdened with the task of sourcing for water from a stagnant swamp, which was not only time-consuming but also dangerous. The availability of clean water has not only improved the health of the people but has also impacted the education of the students positively. The success of the project would not have been possible without the immense support of the community, partners, and donors. We, at Haske Water Aid and Empowerment Foundation, remain committed to providing succor to the needy in the area of potable and sustainable drinking water facilities, and we look forward to more impactful collaborations in the future.

Furthermore, through our commitment to providing clean water to Nigerians, Haske Water Aid and Empowerment Foundation has reached over 55,000 Nigerians with access to clean water. The impact of our work has been immense, as access to clean water is not only a basic need but also critical to achieving the sustainable development goals. We are proud of our accomplishments in 2022, and we remain committed to making a difference in the lives of Nigerians. We appreciate the support of our partners, donors, and volunteers, and we look forward to a future where every Nigerian has access to clean water. Together, we can make it happen.
